What is DFM? Design for Manufacturing
DFM means designing a part so it is easy and cheap to make — a mindset applied from the first sketch, not a cleanup at the end.

Design for Manufacturing (DFM) means designing a part so it is easy and cheap to make. It is a mindset applied from the first sketch, not a cleanup at the end of the project.
The goal
Every manufacturing method has things it likes and things it hates. DFM is matching your design to what the chosen process does well — and avoiding what it does badly.
- Standardize features across parts
- Reduce setups and operations
- Choose tolerances you actually need
- Pick the right process for the volume
A part designed for 10,000 units is not the same part designed for 10 units. DFM makes that choice explicit.
All designs and intellectual property shown or discussed remain 100% yours. KED signs an NDA and transfers all IP rights to you on paper.
